For my first post I chose a fairly simple craft, but one I’ve been wanting to try for a while now. It’s been sitting in my DIY Pinterest board for quite some time.
Drink coasters aren’t as popular as they used to be, people tend to think they are for a more conservative household where one must always practice perfect etiquette like keeping your elbows off the dinner table.
But these coasters are much more casual and perfect for a backyard BBQ, they are a little humorous and hopefully conversation stater.
Here are the materials you are going to need:
1. 100 count scrabble pieces. (I got mine on Amazon)
2. A roll of cork board.
3. Clear acrylic coating. (I used Krylon)
4. A hot glue gun.
After you’ve got all your materials together you’ll need to decide what your words your going to use. Obviously they need to be four letter or less. I went with a, well lets just say an adult beverage theme.
1. BEER, ALES, HOPS & BREWS.
2. MINT, LIME, SALT & STIR.
3. VINO, AGED, WINE & CORK.
4. POUR, DRY, TART & NEAT.
Now the easiest way to start your coaster is to begin glueing your scrabble pieces in the top left hand corner of your poster board, using its natural straight edges. Make sure to cover as much of the scrabble pieces as possible with the glue gun, this will make the coasters a little more sturdy.
Once you’ve completed all four rows of your coaster cut along the edges with your scissors as close the scrabble pieces as possible.
Once all four coasters are glued and cut out your going to want to coat them with the clear acrylic to make them moisture resistant. They are for your drinks after all! Make sure you complete this step outside and on newspaper or cardboard.
Follow the instructions on your spray can before completing this step. I had to shake my can for about two minutes. And sprayed each coaster from about ten inches away. I coated each one three times waiting about a minute in between each coat. Let them dry for an hour before serving those drinks!
Well I hope you enjoyed my first post. I really enjoyed creating these and I’m sure you will too!
